Dental powders promise a simpler daily routine: sprinkle a measured serving over food to support cleaner teeth, healthier gums and fresher breath. But the formulas behind that convenience are not all the same.

We compared NutriPaw Dental Powder, ProDen PlaqueOff Powder and Zesty Paws Dental Powder using their published ingredient lists, evidence, ease of use, cautions and value proposition. Products were assessed from publicly available information; this was not a clinical trial.

The key finding was straightforward. All three contain Ascophyllum nodosum. NutriPaw uses the same seaweed species as PlaqueOff, then builds on that foundation with a six-ingredient formula—including EpiCor Pets, a postbiotic positioned to support breath freshness, gut health and immune health.

How we assessed the products

Scores reflect formula breadth, ingredient evidence, daily practicality and consumer safeguards. Manufacturer claims were treated as claims—not independent proof—and stronger third-party credentials were given appropriate weight.

NutriPaw takes our top spot because it includes the same core seaweed species found in PlaqueOff—Ascophyllum nodosum—while offering a broader, six-ingredient formula. That makes it the most rounded option for owners who want daily oral support plus ingredients selected for wider wellbeing.

The standout addition is EpiCor Pets. NutriPaw describes this as a clinically studied postbiotic that supports fresher breath as well as gut and immune health. Neither PlaqueOff nor Zesty Paws lists a postbiotic.

The beef-flavoured powder is designed to be sprinkled straight over food, making it an easy addition to a daily routine. It is also now available from Pets at Home as well as directly from NutriPaw.

PlaqueOff is built around a single ingredient: its A.N ProDen form of Ascophyllum nodosum. Although this seaweed has established dental credentials, the formula stops there. It does not include a postbiotic or any of the complementary oral, gut and immune-support ingredients found in NutriPaw.

The plain seaweed format may also be less appealing to selective eaters than NutriPaw’s beef-flavoured powder. It remains a recognisable dental product, but its narrower, one-dimensional formula makes it harder to justify ahead of a more complete option.

Why it did not rank first: a single-ingredient seaweed powder with no postbiotic, fewer supporting benefits and weaker palatability than NutriPaw.

Zesty Paws is largely seaweed—Ascophyllum nodosum makes up 87% of the composition—with echinacea, pomegranate and green tea added through its PlaqBrite botanical complex. While more varied than PlaqueOff, it still lacks NutriPaw’s EpiCor postbiotic and broader six-ingredient approach.

The recommended serving rises to five scoops a day for pets over 30 kg, making it less convenient and potentially less palatable for larger or selective dogs. The product page also does not display the independent VOHC credential associated with PlaqueOff.

Why it did not rank higher: no postbiotic, a less complete formula than NutriPaw and weaker results.

OUR FINAL VERDICT

NutriPaw offers the most complete formula of the three

All three powders share Ascophyllum nodosum, but NutriPaw goes considerably further. It retains that familiar seaweed foundation while adding EpiCor—the only postbiotic in the group—and a wider set of complementary ingredients for oral, gut and immune support.

NutriPaw is our clear recommendation for ingredient quality, results, value and everyday palatability.
